How to Check if an Online Product is Genuine

Red flags in the listing

• Price far below market — if it is half the price of every other shop, ask why
• Only one photo, reused across brands — real sellers show several angles
• No brand name, or words like "oem", "copy" or "same as" in the title
• Missing specifications — no model number, no warranty information
• Seller avoids direct questions — especially about warranty and serial numbers

Questions worth asking before you pay

1. Is this the branded product or a compatible copy?
2. What is the warranty period, and who provides it — you or the manufacturer?
3. Can I see the serial number or packaging before delivery?
4. Will the box be sealed and factory-packed?

A genuine seller will answer clearly. Evasive replies are themselves an answer.

Check the packaging on delivery

Inspect the parcel in front of the courier before paying. Look for consistent printing, correct spelling of the brand name, barcodes that scan, and a matching model number on the box and the device. Poor print quality, spelling errors and missing holograms or seals are strong signals.

For electronics specifically

• Check the IMEI on a phone by dialling *#06# — it must match the box
• Verify an appliance voltage rating matches your area's supply
• Confirm the model number exists on the manufacturer's official site

If a product turns out to be fake

Refuse delivery if you can. If you have already paid, contact us within 24 hours with photos of the product, packaging and serial number. Do not use or activate the product — activation can complicate a claim.
